The Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal
grace. For by the sacrament of Confirmation, a baptized person is more
perfectly bound to the Church and is enriched with a special strength of the
Holy Spirit. Hence a Confirmed person, as a true witness of Christ, is more
strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.
In some parts of the world children are confirmed as infants immediately
after Baptism, while in other places immediately before or after first
Communion. Here in the U.S. the age of confirmation varies from diocese to
diocese. In the Diocese of Scranton, it is usually between 7th and 9th grade.
